AI Operations Lead
The AI Operations Lead is the role inside the enterprise accountable for the policy library, the evaluation suite, and the autonomous improvement loop that governs Production AI.
Every discipline has a role. DevOps has the Site Reliability Engineer. MLOps has the ML Platform Engineer. AI Operations has the AI Operations Lead.
The role owns three artefacts. The policy library, the working asset that compounds. The evaluation suite, the structured set of evaluations run against the agent (see Evaluation Suite). The autonomous improvement loop, the cycle by which the agent improves through refinement gated by human governance (see Autonomous Improvement Loop).
Domain experts author the AI. The AI Operations Lead operates it. The two roles compose. Authoring without operation drifts. Operation without authoring stalls.
Reporting line varies by organisation. Some place the role under the CTO. Others under the COO, the Chief AI Officer, or a dedicated AI Operations function. Placement is structural. Accountability is fixed.
